A historic season for the George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals ended disappointingly Tuesday night in Harrison County.
GRC (25-6) fell in the first round of the 10th Region Tournament to the Campbell County Lady Camels 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-20). Stats for the match were not available at press time.
Regardless of the outcome, it was still a season to celebrate for a program that did not win a match during the 2019 season.
The Lady Cards notched wins over Madison Central and Harrison County for the first time in over a decade and posted the program’s best record in that same time frame.
They also started a potential district dynasty by claiming a second straight 40th District Championship.
However, next season will be a rebuild for Coach Kainan Hudson.
The Lady Cards lose five seniors from this year’s squad: Lauren Anderson, Ella Lowe, Kelsey McKeehan, Jordan Thompson and Kamryn Toler.
McKeehan led GRC with 785 assists this season, with 263 digs and 54 service aces.
Toler led the team in digs (307) and was second in assists (84). Thompson led the team in total blocks (113) and had 122 kills on the campaign.
Lowe contributed 235 digs, 109 kills and 44 service aces, and Anderson had 125 digs this season.
Next season, the core of the team’s roster will be freshman Mia Pendley, sophomore Teigh Yeast and junior Rileigh Reed.
Pendley led GRC with 373 kills.
Yeast had 292 kills and 98 digs.
Reed had 44 kills, 42 blocks and 36 service aces.
