The George Rogers Clark volleyball renaissance continued Wednesday evening as the Lady Cardinals clinched a second consecutive 40th District championship with a 3-0 victory over the Bourbon County Lady Colonels.
GRC down the visitors 25-14, 25-17, 25-19 to improve their record to 25-5 on the campaign.
Kesley McKeehan had 34 assists, 13 digs, five kills and a block for the Lady Cards. Mia Pendley contributed 13 kills, eight digs, three blocks and an assist. Kamryn Toler recorded ten digs, a kill and an assist. Teigh Yeast had ten kills and three digs. Ella Lowe had seven digs, six kills, two blocks and two assists.
On Tuesday, the Lady Cards advanced to the championship match with a 3-0 (25-3, 25-4, 25-4) victory over the Paris Lady Greyhounds.
Pendley recorded 21 kills and four digs. Toler contributed ten assists and eight digs. Yeast had nine kills, seven service aces and four digs. Ella Lowe had seven kills and four digs. McKeehan paced GRC with 30 assists, 16 digs and four service aces.
The Lady Cards’ consecutive district crowns are a feather in coach Kainan Hudson’s cap after inheriting a program that went winless in 2020. The program ended long losing streaks against Madison Central and Harrison County this season, and earned its first 20-win season in over a decade.
They will compete in the 10th Region Tournament next week in Harrison County.
