GRC volleyball places second in Harrison Co. tournament

The George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals tasted defeat last weekend for the first time in almost a month but came away as the runner-up at the Fillie Fall Fling in Harrison County.
The Ashland Blazer Kittens defeated GRC (21-5) in Saturday’s championship match 2-1 (21-25, 25-19, 15-8) to end the Lady Cards’ win streak at 12.
Senior Kelsey McKeehan turned in another standout performance with 23 assists and 11 digs. Senior Kamryn Toler and freshman Mia Pendley tied for the team lead in digs with 15 apiece. Pendley also had a team-high 12 kills. Senior Ella Lowe had 11 digs, three kills and two blocks.
The Kittens defeated GRC earlier in the season at the Dink Scott Memorial Tournament in Montgomery County.
The Lady Cards defeated Ludlow (25-9, 25-12) and Augusta (25-3, 25-7) to advance to the championship match.
They rounded out their trip to Cynthiana with victories over Rowan County (25-9, 25-4) and host Harrison County (22-25, 25-13, 15-8). The victory over the Fillies was their second straight this season.
The Lady Cards had a straight sets home victory over Bourbon County (25-17, 25-15, 25-14) in a tuneup last Thursday. McKeehan had 32 assists, 12 digs and a service ace.
GRC continued its winning ways from last weekend with a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-19, 25-16) victory over East Jessamine in Nicholasville on Tuesday.
Sophomore Teigh Yeast had a monster match with 20 kills, an assist and a dig. Toler and Pendley combined for 31 digs. McKeehan was sensational with 37 assists and 12 digs.
The Lady Cards defeated Henry Clay 3-2 (26-28, 25-21, 18-25, 25-11, 15-12) at home on Thursday.
GRC will wrap up the regular season next Tuesday with a home match against Paris.
