All good things must come to an end, and the George Rogers Clark Cardinals’ (12-5-2) six-match unbeaten streak came to an abrupt halt on Tuesday.
The Bryan Station Defenders shut out the visiting Cards, 3-0, behind goals from junior Max Majors and seniors Christian Ngilu and Mwanaume Buhari Kadusi.
During their recent hot streak, coach Nick Vogler’s team outscored the combined competition 25-4 and shot up the 10th Region rankings, which they currently sit atop.
The Cards finished the regular season at home on Thursday against Western Hills with a 4-1 victory. The stats were not available as of Friday.
They play Paris in the opening round of the District 39 Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Mount Sterling. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. GRC previously defeated Paris 10-0 on Sept. 12.
Through 18 matches reported on the KHSAA website, seniors PK Vogel and Clay Turley are tied in the race to be the team’s regular season scoring ace with 15 goals apiece. Turley has a commanding lead in the assists category with ten to Vogel’s five.
