Yesterday, the GRC baseball team (19-12) won their semifinal contest against the Paris Greyhounds (9-21) in the 40th District Tournament by a dominant 10-0 score in six innings.
Defensively, starting pitcher Devlin Gray was able to establish control early – strikeout out four batters in three innings. In a combined two innings pitched, relievers Keyonte Back and Andrew Hummel struck out five. Collectively, only 95 pitches were thrown by the Cards.
Offensively, five players each had a pair of hits – Brady Davis, Tanner Walton, JP Gaines, Kamden McAlpin, and Carter Maynard – who returned to the starting lineup. Of the three, Walton, Maynard, and Gaines each had two RBIs, as did senior Grayson Gough. Nick Huff added another.
The Cards will play Montgomery County (17-12) in the 40th District Tournament Championship Game on Wednesday, May 18th at 8:00 pm. With both teams having near equal records and going 1-1 against each other this season, it appears that a close match-up is in store.
