Investigators believe alcohol played a factor in a single-car crash that killed one and injured another person Saturday evening on Cabin Creek Road.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Jesse Brandenburg of 2975 Muddy Creek Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near 968 Cabin Creek Road.

The driver, 26-year-old Macy H. Barton of 10 Howard Drive, was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center from the scene for medical treatment.

Deputies said Barton was not able to give details concerning the crash and there were no witnesses. Both men were unresponsive when first responders reached the scene.

From evidence at the scene, it appeared that Barton’s 2008 Toyota Camry went off the edge of the road in a slight left curve. It went through a fence and continued through a yard before hitting a tree on the right side of the car.

Clark County firefighters extricated both Barton and Brandenburg from the vehicle.

Deputies noted there was an open bottle of liquor found in the floorboard of the car. Firefighters also told deputies those in the car smelled of alcohol.

According to the accident, deputies also believe speed played a factor in the crash as well.

The crash was reported shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday.

No other vehicles were involved.
