Yard sale to benefit female vets center

Donors to the Lady Vets Connect project in the former Trapp Elementary have been so generous, there will be a massive yard sale of the excess donations.
The yard sale will be Friday and Saturday at the school on Kentucky 89.
“We get calls and emails almost every day from people who have heard about us and want to help,” said Phyllis Abbott of Lady Vets Connect.
There have been donations of furniture and all kinds of other things including clothes, bedding, housewares and even some brand new items, she said.
What they can use for the shelter for female veterans, they are, Abbott said. There is so much left over, though, they are looking for other ways to use them. In the fall, they sent a trailer of supplies to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, following the devastating wildfires.
Still, there’s plenty left.
The school’s cafeteria is already filled with racks upon racks of clothes.
In the gym, there’s furniture and still more clothes.
“It will always be shared with someone who has needs,” she said. “We’ve had amazing volunteers. We’re amazed and blessed.”
Lady Vets Connect purchased the school last year and announced plans to use it as a temporary shelter for female veterans and their children.
Abbott said they expect to be able to house up to 35 people. A model room at the school contained a couple beds, couches and a sink in one corner.
“We don’t want it to look too institutional,” she said.
The sale will be from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. both days at the school, 11400 Irvine Road. The group is also planning other fundraisers in the future.
