All three cases against assault suspect Brandon Hocker are now before a new judge.

Thursday, Clark Circuit Judge Jean Chenault Logue recused herself from two of Hocker’s three pending assault cases in Clark County. She previously recused herself from a 2015 case when Hocker allegedly assaulted Clark County Jailer Frank Doyle after appearing in her courtroom.

All three cases are now before Clark Circuit Judge William Clouse and are set for next Thursday’s docket for further action.

Hocker has been incarcerated almost constantly since he was arrested in May 2013 after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend during an argument. Since then, the case has remained in the court system, depending on whether testing showed Hocker was competent to stand trial.

In 2014, Hocker was found not competent, the charges were dismissed and he was admitted for long-term medical care. When the facility was going to discharge Hocker, the charges were reinstated and he was returned to Clark County’s jail, where he remains.

Since his initial arrest, Hocker was indicted for two other assaults: one where he is accused of hitting another prisoner at the jail and for assaulting Doyle in August 2015.

That day, Hocker was arguing with Logue in court after she continued his case to have another competency hearing.

Hocker, who was handcuffed and shackled, was led from this courtroom by bailiffs. Outside, a scuffle broke out during which Hocker allegedly swung at Doyle and the handcuffs cut Doyle in the mouth. Bailiffs and deputy jailers held Hocker on the floor and used a Taser until he could be subdued and returned to the jail. 

His original arrest was for an incident on April 30, 2013, where he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend multiple times. The wounds were not life-threatening and Hocker was arrested the following day.
