A Winchester man was charged with felony assault after a traffic accident, and a day after he was arrested for driving under the influence.
John Nunan, 65 of 543 N. Maple St., was arrested the second time following a traffic accident on Westwood Drive Dec. 27, 2019. According to court documents, witnesses said Nunan collided with another vehicle and tried to leave the scene. They also told police Nunan’s vehicle struck a woman who was on the scene. She was transported to Clark Regional Medical Center.
When Nunan was unable to leave the parking lot, witnesses said he ran through the apartment complex and into a wooded area. Winchester Police said they found Nunan sitting in the woods and arrested him for second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police said Nunan admitted to driving the vehicle and being involved in the accident.
Less than 24 hours earlier, Nunan was arrested for driving under the influence and other charges.
According to the citation, Winchester Police and a Clark County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle on West Lexington Avenue after officers spotted the vehicle weaving in and out of the lane, and for having four people in the front seat without seat belts. Police said Nunan had a green powdered substance around his nose, and had slurred speech, droopy eyes and appeared disoriented. He was transported to Clark Regional Medical Center.
He was later arrested for driving under the influence, failure to wear seat belt and careless driving.
