Clark Circuit Clerk Martha Miller received one of four national awards Friday for her efforts to support organ donation registration.

Miller won the region 2 Lifesaver Award from the national Donate Life America organization.

The award also puts her in the running for the national award in 2020.

Miller was nominated by Frances Click, who retired from the Kentucky Trust for Life organization.

In a ceremony Friday morning, Click told Miller she nominated her for the award “because that’s what you do every day.”

According to Donate Life America, the Lifesaver Award goes to a department of motor vehicle or driver’s licensing official for their “exceptional commitment” to the organ donation mission.

A national Lifesaver Award winner will be chosen from the four regional winners during the 2020 AAMVA International Conference.

The Kentucky Trust for Life was started by Arthur “Whitey” Walson while he served as circuit clerk in Clark County to increase registrations of organ donors when they renew their driver’s licenses.

Subsequent clerks David Hunt, Paula Joslin and Miller have continued to champion the cause.

The Clark County office is usually at or near the top of statewide statistics for organ donor registration.

Earlier this year, Clark County reported registering 3,881 new donors in 2018 and 96 percent of registered drivers in Clark County are organ donors.

“We wish we could clone you,” Click said.

Miller said the award reflected on her whole staff of deputy clerks.

“I can not do this without all of you,” she said. “We just love what we do.”
