The person who drove multiple armed men to a Winchester apartment building prior to a fatal shootout could serve up to 11 years in prison.

Mikaela Buford, 19, admitted Thursday that she drove Denzel Hill, Darian Skinner and Ronnie Ellis to 27 E. Washington St. on Nov. 7, 2017, moment before shots were fired that killed two 16-year-old girls.

Buford pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of facilitation to commit murder and one count of complicity to first-degree wanton endangerment. Prosecutors recommended a five year sentence for each facilitation count and one year for complicity. Buford also agreed to testify against her co-defendants at trial.

Facilitation was a reduction from Buford’s original charge of complicity to commit murder, which carries a sentence of 20 years to life in prison.

As she tried to keep her emotions in check, Buford told Clark Circuit Judge Jean Chenault Logue she picked up Hill, Skinner and Ellis and drove them to the apartments. They were looking for another person following an argument earlier in the day, she said.

Buford said she knew Hill and Skinner were armed, but did not see the shooting occur as she stayed in the car.

Winchester Police believe the prior argument included Hill, Skinner, Ellis, Buford, and the two victims, Adrianna Castro and Kayla Holland, and other people.

Police said witnesses saw Hill, Skinner and Ellis get out of the car, spread out and begin shooting handguns. A fourth person, Matthew Carmen, returned fire from an apartment. All four have been charged with two counts of murder.

The two victims were exiting an apartment at 31 E. Washington St., which shares a parking lot with 31 E. Washington St., and were caught in the crossfire of a gunfight, police said.

Holland died at the scene and Castro died at the hospital.

Buford is scheduled to be sentenced April 11 in Clark Circuit Court.
