A man accused of trying to hire someone to kill another man was sentenced to a year in prison for wanton endangerment Thursday.
Jesse Long, 39, of 114 Village Court Apt. 7, pleaded guilty to the reduced charge in Clark Circuit Court in February.
Clark Circuit Judge William Clouse followed the sentencing recommendation listed in the agreement, and denied a request from Long and his attorney for probation.
Winchester Police opened the investigation in March 2017 after receiving a call from a third party who said Long was looking for someone he though was dating his girlfriend.
Using the third party, a meeting was set up between Long and an undercover detective. Long allegedly offered $500 and a weapon.
Long’s girlfriend and the intended target were warned in advance and were not harmed. Long was arrested a short time after the meeting.
Long’s sentence was the minimum for first-degree wanton endangerment. He was originally charged with solicitation of murder, which carries a sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison upon conviction.
