The man accused of trying to hire someone to kill another man pleaded guilty Thursday for a one-year sentence.

Jesse R. Long, 39, of 114 Village Court Apt. 7, changed his plea Thursday in Clark Circuit Court as part of an agreement that reduced the charge from solicitation of murder to first-degree wanton endangerment.

Long, who said nothing during his appearance before Clark Circuit Judge William Clouse, will be sentenced March 8.

Long was arrested March 3, 2017, following an investigation by Winchester Police. At the time of the arrest, Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said a third party contacted the department three nights earlier and reported the situation.

Using the third party, they set up a meeting between Long and an undercover detective.

Long allegedly offered $500 and a firearm to kill a person who he thought was going out with his girlfriend.

No one was injured and Long was arrested following the meeting.

Had Long been convicted of solicitation of murder, he could have received 10 to 20 years in prison. First-degree wanton endangerment carries a sentence range of one to five years in prison.
