George Rogers Clark’s swimmers competed recently in the Regionals and now have their eyes set on the fast lane at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association state championship meet.
The Region 8 meet was held Saturday in Barbourville at the Stiver Aquatic Center.
“The team did very well!” Cards’ Coach Ashleigh Richardson said. “Out of 42 swims, there were 30 swimmers who were either lifetime or season bests. At the end of the year meet, all you can ask for is time drops.”
Cards’ freshman Libby Taylor placed 4th in the 200-yard individual medley and 9th in the 100-yard butterfly while 8th grader Jordan Pustelnik placed 12th in the 500 yard freestyle.
The state meet will take place February 18-19 at the University of Kentucky’s Lancaster Aquatic Center.
Cards who qualified to compete in the state meet are Taylor (200-yard Individual Medley) and the women’s 200-yard free relay: Taylor, Harper Sebulsky, Grace Owen and Riley Williams.
Much applause goes to Richardson for her first season coaching the Cards.
“As my first year, I feel like the season went very well,” she said. “I’m hoping to grow this program and make it bigger. Swimming is my passion and I want to share my knowledge with those that love it as much as I do. Already looking forward to next year.”
