A 17-year-old is facing a number of charges after leading police on a pursuit through Winchester in a stolen car early Tuesday morning.

Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said officers were notified about stolen cars headed toward Winchester from Lexington. Officers spotted the car on Lexington Avenue near the Winchester Cemetery around 2 a.m. Tuesday and attempted to stop two vehicles. The drivers, though, did not and continued through downtown to Depot Street.

WPD Patrolman Michael Keffer stopped the stolen Dodge Charger near the former IGA at the corner of North Main and Depot streets after it struck a curb and damaged a tire.

When Keffer got out of his cruiser, the suspect’s car backed into Keffer’s vehicle and pushed it into the glass door of the building, according to the accident report prepared by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect then continued to North Highland Street until the vehicle crashed into a concrete wall and fence at Peoples Exchange Bank, Hall said.

The second vehicle went toward Irvine Road and officers terminated the pursuit because of conditions at the time, Hall said. That vehicle has not been located.

No one was injured in any of the incidents.

The driver, a 17-year-old juvenile, was charged with receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, first-degree fleeing or evading police and wanton endangerment, Hall said. The 14-year-old passenger was released to his parents and was not charged, he said.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, police did not release his name. Juvenile court proceedings are closed to the public and court records are sealed.
