A family of eight woke to a possible nightmare when their house caught fire early Friday morning.

Four adults and four children all escaped without injury, Clark County Fire Chief Ernie Barnes said.

Firefighters were called to 1500 Pine Ridge Road around 4:30 a.m. Friday and found a house that was fully involved with fire, Barnes said.

“The people had been there working the night before and decided to stay the night,” Barnes said. “They woke up to a fire.”

Barnes said the residents, who were renovating the home owned by Rick Mink, had family living nearby.

Firefighters were on the scene for a little more than two hours, Barnes said, and had the fire knocked down quickly.

The cause has not been determined, he said, and nothing has been ruled out..

“There was a kerosene heater,” he said. “It’s my understanding there were a few candles inside for light. There’s a couple ignition sources.”

Firefighters from the Hargett and Estill County fire departments assisted at the scene, he said.
