One person killed in downtown apartment fire

One person died in an early morning apartment fire on North Main Street in downtown Winchester.

Winchester Fire-EMS was called out at 2:34 a.m. to a structure fire at 319 N. Main St., according to the fire department.

Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said one person died from the fire. An autopsy is scheduled for this morning in Frankfort, he said.

At this point, police are handling the case as a death investigation, he said.

Fire officials are working to determine the cause of the fire, Hall said.
