Clark rolls past Indians

The George Rogers Clark High School softball team defeated rival Montgomery County 15-8 in a high-scoring affair Tuesday night at Cardinal Heights.
The Lady Cardinals secured the victory thanks to 12 runs in the first inning. Clark’s offense in the inning came from singles by Christina Young, Kendall Harrison, and Emily Schooler, a triple by India Taulbee, a groundout by Lauren Carpenter and a double by Ashley Martin.
Montgomery County got on the board in the first inning when Emily Zink singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
Courtney Miles got the win for Clark. She went seven innings, allowing eight runs on 18 hits, striking out 11 and walking one.
Taylor Alfery took the loss for Montgomery County. She lasted six innings, allowing 15 hits and 15 runs while striking out one.
Clark racked up 15 hits in the game. Young, Martin, Marly Rogers, Schooler, and Harrison each collected multiple hits. Young went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Cardinals’ offense.
Montgomery County totaled 18 hits. Kaitlyn Barber, Reaghan Oney, Kristen Stephens, Ashton Brien, Mareya Wright and Zink all managed multiple hits for Montgomery County.
Engineers derail Clark
A walk-off run left Clark on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat to Estill County on Wednesday, snapping the Lady Cards’ five-game winning streak.
The game was tied at 2-2 with Estill County batting in the bottom of the seventh when Alyssa Sparks singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Estill County pitchers struck out six, while Clark sat down eight.
The Lady Cards evened things up at two in the top of the sixth inning.
Emma Winkle earned the victory in the circle for Estill County. She went seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out six. Miles took the loss. She went six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out eight.
Clark tallied eight hits. Rogers, Paige Caudill and Christina Young all collected multiple hits for Clark. Young, Caudill and Rogers each collected two hits each.
Sparks led Estill County with two hits in two at bats. Sparks led Estill County with two stolen bases as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.
