A Winchester man agreed to a four-year sentence for assaulting two people with a knife last year.
James A. McDonald, 33, of 31 E. Washington St., was arrested on April 30, 2018, following an altercation at the apartment building where he lived.
Thursday in Clark Circuit Court, McDonald pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree assault under extreme emotional disturbance, which was amended from two counts of first-degree assault. A persistent felony offender charge was dismissed as part of the agreement.
Prosecutors recommended McDonald serve four years for each assault charge, which would run concurrently.
McDonald is scheduled to be sentenced April 18.
According to court documents, Winchester Police were called to McDonald’s residence for a possible stabbing at 7:45 a.m. April 30. A witness Lindsay Blevins told police McDonald threatened her and was pushing her around. She said she called her brother-in-law Robert Wilson Jr. to come over.
When Wilson arrived, he said McDonald had a knife in his hand and attacked him, cutting his face and stabbing him once in the side.
A second victim, Nicholas Dearing, said he heard the altercation and tried to disarm McDonald, but got cut on the hand.
Both Dearing and Wilson were treated at Clark Regional Medical Center.
