Man charged with cutting apt. manager

A verbal altercation turned physical Wednesday evening when a man allegedly cut an apartment building manager with a knife.

William Duke Jr., 39, was charged with second-degree assault after officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 27 E. Washington St.

The victim, Michael Curtis, said he is the property manager of the apartment building and told Duke he was not to be on the property, according to court documents. The two began yelling and cursing. Curtis said Duke pulled a knife and started swinging it at him, eventually cutting him on the hand.

After officers arrived and began investigating, they found Duke sitting in a vehicle down the street and in possession of the knife.

According to the arrest citation, Duke told officers he was in a verbal altercation and said Curtis was striking him with a wooden plunger handle. Duke said Curtis knocked the knife out of a holster on his side.

Duke was arrested and lodged in the Clark County Detention Center.
