A Winchester man will serve two years on probation after assaulting three officers in 2017 following his arrest.

Jason Stump, 32, of 28 Ashland Ave., pleaded guilty in October to three counts of third-degree assault and one count each of endangering the welfare of a minor, resisting arrest and third-degree criminal mischief.

Officers were called to the residence on May 21, 2017 and heard people yelling inside. Stump became agitated and aggressive with officers, according to court documents. Once they said he was being arrested, he began to fight with officers. He also head-butted a deputy jailer at the Clark County Detention Center.

Stump’s attorney Valetta Browne asked that the sentence be probated as Stump had been a model client, accepted full responsibility, had no issues while on bond and pleaded guilty to all charges.

Browne said Stump, at the time of his arrest, was “under the influence, had a bad attitude and acted like a jerk.”

Clark Circuit Judge Jean Chenault Logue noted that Stump had no other criminal record and the incident appeared to be an isolated one.

The sentence, which was reached through felony mediation, called for Stump to serve one year for each assault count and 30 days for each of the remaining charges. Logue probated all the sentences for two years.
