A Winchester man pleaded not guilty Monday to charges he stole thousands of dollars from an elderly person and threatened to crash her car.
Jonathan Bostic, 42, of 15 Hays St., was arrested Friday on charges of knowingly exploiting an adult and knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult.
Police began investigating after the victim’s family found her in her apartment with a broken hip, Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said.
During the last six months, Bostic allegedly used the woman’s medication, bank card and her vehicle, all without permission.
The victim, who is in her early 70s, lived in Beverly White Towers, Hall said.
Bostic is neither a blood relative or a caretaker, but was living with the woman in her apartment.
“It was over a multi-week period,” Hall said. “The victim ended up with a broken hip. He wouldn’t allow her to leave the apartment.”
According to court documents, Bostic pushed the woman down, which caused her broken hip.
The citation also said Bostic threatened to crash her car so she couldn’t use it and threatened to kill her if she reported anything.
Hall said the thefts are estimated to be around $30,000.
The woman was taken to Clark Regional Medical Center then to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.
Monday, a judge entered an automatic not-guilty plea for Bostic in Clark District Court, because the charges are both felonies.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 26.
In the meantime, he is being held on a $20,000 cash bond in the Clark County Detention Center.
