Baker Intermediate School students are taking audiences back to a Disney classic this weekend with their production of Beauty and the Beast Jr. at Robert D. Campbell Junior High School.
Theater teachers Ian Ferrell and Katie Berner, with assistance from other teachers across the district, have been working with the cast of 52 since October.
While the cast is made up entirely of Baker students, Ferrell said that three RDC students have also been involved with the production as the stage crew.
Ferrell said that the casting and rehearsal has challenged the students to improve the quality of their performance.
“Everyone went through a full audition process,” he said.
Emma Hackworth, a sixth-grader playing Lumiere the candlestick in the show, said her favorite part of the production has been the people she has worked with.
“I’ve made a lot of friends, and we’ve had a good time,” she said.
She said she and the other cast members have worked hard to perfect their performance, and the quality of the show has improved since their first practice last year.
Hackworth said the hardest part of the production for her has been the “Be Our Guest” song and dance number, because of its high energy.
Beauty and the Beast Jr. will be shown in the RDC auditorium Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for kids. To purchase or reserve tickets, call Baker Intermediate School at 859-745-5190 or email Emily.Daniels@clark.kyschools.us.
