Yard waste collection ending Nov. 15 for year
Winchester Municipal Utilities announced it would cease weekly yard waste collection for 2018 on Nov. 15.
Yard waste includes green curb-its, bagged grass, bagged leaves, shrubs, bundled branches and more. Tree branches must be less than two inches in diameter and four feet in length.
Customers must call at least 24-hours in advance to schedule a pickup if the branches exceed those requirements; each customer receives one pickup per month by mechanical means.
Customers can place any yard waste collected after Nov. 15 at the curb on their solid waste pickup date for disposal, WMU General Manager Mike Flynn said in an email.
According to WMU’s website, customers must place yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of pickup, and it must not obstruct any vehicles utility poles, wires, fences, mailboxes or more.
Customers cannot place any dirt, sod, rocks or gravel as yard waste.
Customers must also keep solid waste and yard waste separate.
Yard waste services will resume in spring 2019.
Customers can direct any questions to the Solid Waste Department at 859-744-1170.
