A Winchester man charged with assaulting and abusing his stepson will go before a jury in September.

Justin Robinson, 26, of 247 April Way, was arrested in October 2018 after a 2-year-old boy was found with a fractured leg and multiple bruises after being left in Robinson’s care.

Robinson is now scheduled to be tried in Clark Circuit Court on Sept. 16 for first-degree assault and first-degree criminal abuse.

According to court documents, the child was left in Robinson’s care on Oct. 9, 2018, by the child’s mother.

Winchester Police detectives were called to Clark Regional Medical Center about a child with multiple injuries. Robinson told police in an interview he became frustrated after the child kept “sassing” him and picking up the dog, according to the arrest citation. Robinson told police he put the child on his shoulder but he fell. Robinson said he grabbed the child’s leg as it fell and he heard a pop.

Robinson also told police he disciplined the child by hitting it with his fist.
