A recent announcement from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet that Clark County will have some additional funds for road projects is welcome news.

The KYTC announced this week it has awarded $225,000 in discretionary funds to the Clark County Fiscal Court for resurfacing work on various county roads.

The funds will be used to make much-needed repairs to county roads to address existing surface cracks, potholes, rutting, crumbling shoulders and base failures.

The Clark County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the work, and KYTC will reimburse the county for the projects.

Resurfacing work will address:

— Jones Nursery Road (KY 1216) from mile point 0 to mile point 3.094

— Bailey Lane (KY 1241) from mile point 0 to mile point .551

— Schoolhouse Lane (KY 1207) from mile point 0 to mile point .094

— Schoolhouse Lane (KY 1228) from mile point 0 to mile point .110

— Old Iron Works Road (KY 1001) from mile point 0 to mile point .528.

Roads are some of our most critical infrastructure, and repairs can be costly and frequent.

That is why some roads have been on lists for much-needed repairs for years, with funds being allocated to roads in more critical need.

Clark County Road Supervisor Kevin Wilson said some of the roads that will be addressed with these funds have been on lists for nearly five years.

However, waiting for that many years only means roads are worn down and become in much more critical shape.

These funds are exciting news for the county and it will be great to see the end result.
