A Clark County woman who embezzled thousands of dollars while working for the county is back in jail for allegedly violating her probation.

Jennifer Paige Adkins, 42, of 222 Moundale Ave., was ordered to repay nearly $13,000 while serving three years probation after taking the money from the Local Emergency Planning Committee account.

Adkins had pleaded guilty to four counts of theft by unlawful taking. She was ordered to spend seven days in jail, while the remainder of her four-year sentence was probated.

Adkins served as the treasurer for the account while she worked for Clark County.

The warrant alleges that Adkins has not paid restitution, fines, court costs, probation supervision fees or alcohol and drug testing fees. She is also charged with leaving Kentucky without permission.

A hearing date has not been scheduled yet in Clark Circuit Court.

Adkins was arrested in May 2018 after county officials discovered several discrepancies within the EPC account, which uses public funds, but not county funds, while reviewing the bank’s statements.

Detectives with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said they found 17 checks with forged signatures and six others without the required second signature, all of which were made payable to Adkins and deposited in her personal account.

Court documents indicated Adkins issued more than $16,000 in false invoices, made $4,463.71 in purchased with EPC funds at Walmart and issued more than $6,600 worth of unauthorized checks.

Adkins was the only person with access to the EPC account, Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. said previously.
