Nancye Ruth Haggard Erwin Grigalis, 77
Nancye Ruth Haggard Erwin Grigalis, 77, adamantly adored wife of Zigurds Edgar Grigalis, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 following a long-term illness but comforted throughout by loving family and friends.
A native of Pilot View, KY, she was born on July 16, 1941 to the late Clarence W. and Mae Belle Leach Haggard. A 1959 graduate of Clark County High School, she resided in Lexington, KY and attended Ashland Avenue Baptist Church and Ephesus Baptist Church in Winchester, KY.
Above all else, Nancye Ruth had no greater love than for God and family. Always ready to tell a story related to family heritage and relatives she was a loving wife and homemaker who adored her children. Unwaveringly patriotic and always proud of the long family tradition of military service dating back to pre-Revolutionary War era. Nancye and Zig were active historical preservationists dedicated to the restoration of homes and farms in upstate New York, Philadelphia, and especially the Lexington and Frankfort area. In 2006, Nancye and Zig were recognized by Kentucky Trust for Historic Preservation for the restoration of the Governor William Owsley House and John Goodman House, Frankfort, KY. Additionally, she was a former PNC bank employee and long-time office manager for Grigalis Group Architects.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children; Lieutenant Colonel (USA, Ret.) John (Larisa) Moore Erwin II, Jeffrey Wayne Burke Erwin and Nancye Carol Erwin; and three granddaughters, Lucia Marcella Erwin, Lauren Elizabeth Lovett, and Regina Theresa Erwin; five grandsons, John Moore Erwin III, James F. Lovett III, Joseph Michael Erwin, Preston Stephen Charles Erwin, and John Vincent Erwin; three sisters, Lieutenant Colonel (USA, Ret.) Ann (the late Charles) Delaney Eckels, Helen (the late Ernest) Joyce Manley, and Dorothy (Ray) Carol Cavender; two brothers, Tandy (the late Joyce) Young Haggard and Paul (Carol) French Haggard; beloved former daughter-in-law, Theresa Marie Arcuri and former son-in-law, James F. Lovett, II; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; three stepsons; six step grandchildren; and many beloved and cherished friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Moore Erwin, Sr. of Ashland, KY, and brother, Harold (Donna) Blaine Haggard of Fort Mill, SC.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Scobee Funeral Home. Brother Dale Hanson, Elk Lick Baptist Church, Lewisburg, KY and Brother Todd Rader, Ephesus Baptist Church, Winchester, KY will officiate the service with burial at the Winchester Cemetery. Celebration of life with family and friends to immediately follow at Ephesus Baptist Church. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the members of Ephesus Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Monday, August 6, 2018 from 5:00-7:00pm at Scobee Funeral Home.
