— LeAnn Wills, a student at Becknerville, was named champion in the apron division of the annual Clark County 4-H Style Show held recently at the George Rogers Clark High School.

May 14, 1969

— From a Roberts and Hudson Tire Co. ad: two for $37 or four for $68; wheel alignment, $8.50.

— Airman Charles R. Yeary, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Charles G. Yeary, has completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He has been assigned to Chanute AFB, Illinois, for training in aircraft maintenance. Airman Yeary, a 1966 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, attended University of Kentucky.

May 15, 1969

— Miss Charlotte Anne Floyd, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Hamon, has entered the Women’s Army Corps. She will leave for Ft. McClellan, Alabama, where she will be stationed for three years. Miss Floyd is a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School and was formerly employed by Sylvania Electric Products.

May 17, 1969

— Household hints: A pipe cleaner dipped in liquid detergent makes cleaning iced-tea stirrers and sippers a “pipe” to do. Use this also to clean the glass tube in the glass coffee percolator.

May 13, 1994

— Employees of the Winchester U.S. Post Office joined other postal employees across the nation Saturday in a food drive, collecting an estimated 7,500 pounds of non-perishable foods locally.

May 16, 1994

— James Martin, Winchester, was one of five seniors in the Eastern Kentucky University Army ROTC program to receive a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during ceremonies at the EKU campus.

May 17, 1994

— Brooke Hudson, a 1993 graduate of GRCHS, was elected an officer in the Lambda Sigma Honor Society. A pre-occupational therapy student at Eastern Kentucky University with a 4.0 grade point average, Hudson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Vicki) Hudson.

— Robbie and Bopper Stenzel have done it again. For the second time in less than a week, the Stenzel brothers tossed a no-hitter in leading the Reds to a 7-0 shutout over the Mets in Major League action at Lykins Park.

May 14, 2004

— Alyson and Caitlyn Vincent, eighth-grade students at Clark Middle School, recently earned second-place honors in the National History Day state competition in Frankfort. They will compete in the National History Day competition in Washington D.C.

May 19, 2004

— Despite presidential and judge-executive races on the ballot, despite a rare opportunity for Clark County Republicans to vote in multiple races in a primary election, the vast majority of local registered voters stayed home for the recent election. Only about 1,200 Republicans and 3,200 Democrats in Clark County cast votes.
