What’s Happening at the Library: Bead making with Queen Bead SueZ Early

Next weekend, the library’s Adult Summer Reading Program kicks off with a class by our favorite bead artist and one of our favorite humans, SueZ Early.

Early’s class will be the ASRP pre-presentation because we will not officially start to hand out new book bags and raffle tickets until June 3.

Everyone who attends Early’s beading class, which is from 1 to 4 p.m. June 1, will receive a new book bag and two tickets for the 2019 ASRP raffle. You can be the first on your block to sport the new library book bag, and you can be the first on your block to fill it up with library books.

If that’s not incentive enough, remember, you’ll be learning bead making from one of the grooviest instructors on the planet. Laboratory tests prove spending the afternoon with Early lowers your blood pressure, elevates your outlook, enhances your mojo and, in many cases leads to singing, “I Lift Up My Finger and Say Tweet, Tweet.” Ten out of 10 doctors recommend it.

Early will provide the bead paper, but if you have some you’d like to use, bring it along.

This program is free and open to the public but is limited to 15 participants, so register to attend by calling the library at 744-5661 or by using the online Evanced registration system at clarkbooks.org.

ASRP grand prizes will be different this year. Instead of winning a box of swell books selected by knowledgeable librarians, on Aug. 1, four people will each win one swell book selected by a knowledgeable librarian and a $75 dollar gift certificate to Barnes and Noble or Half-Price Books, from which each can pick out swell books or drink lattes from Lammas until New Year. It’s a win-win-win-win-win-win.

Participating in the Adult Summer Reading Program will enhance your June/July enjoyment. Every time you want to pass on a yard task, you can rationalize, “Gosh, I guess I better finish reading my library book, in the AC, with a glass of iced tea … and a snack. Yeah!”

Heads up, the library is closed for Memorial Day.

Other programs next week:

— Meeting of Minds discusses the Electoral College at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Is it a safeguard or a dinosaur? Tweaked, or abolished? Come in and share your perspective over coffee and cookies with your friends and neighbors. At the Meeting of Minds, we never let politics get in the way of a laugh.

— Kentucky Picture Show at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Kentucky Picture Show presents a 2019 thriller about an overachieving college student who gets lost on her way to a job interview. A wrong turn leaves her stranded deep in a Kentucky forest. The woman must defend herself against the harsh elements and a band of ruthless outlaws. (The outlaws must be from Tennessee or Ohio). Rated — R for language (Though language begins with an L).

— Trivia night at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Engine House Pizza Pub. Your date surreptitiously consumes your meatball sub while you try to figure out Jeff Gurnee’s Trivia challenges.

— Gentle Yoga at 9:15 a.m. Thursday. Kathy Howard, a certified yoga instructor with Yoga Alliance, teaches the class. There is a $5 charge per class and a chance to see Wes Moody and David Rogers in Yoga pants. Woo-Woo! (Well worth the price of admission).

— Write Local at 10 a.m. Friday. All styles and genres welcome, including great jokes.

On June 1, remember to say “Bunny, bunny, bunny rabbit” when you get up. That will bring you luck all month. You got that from an information specialist.
