A Winchester man who racked up thousands of dollars in purchases and refused to take an elderly woman to the hospital for a broken hip pleaded guilty Thursday.

Jonathan Bostic, 42, of 15 Hays St., was arrested last year for knowingly abusing and neglecting an adult, over the course of six months.

Thursday, Bostic pleaded guilty in Clark Circuit Court to the reduced charges of wantonly abusing and wantonly neglecting an adult. According to court documents, Bostic would be sentenced to two years and one day for each charge. He would also be required to pay restitution.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for June 20.

According to Winchester Police, Bostic lived with the 70-year-old woman at Beverly White Towers, but was not acting as a caregiver. Police said the woman gave Bostic her debit card in March 2018 to purchase a few things for the apartment, but he never returned it and continued to make purchases.

About six weeks before his arrest, police said Bostic broke the woman’s phone and threatened to crash her car so no one else could use it.

On Sept. 14, 2018, Winchester Police Detective Matt Reed said he spoke with the victim at Clark Regional Medical Center where she was being treated for a broken  hip after she was found by family members.

The woman said Bostic had pushed her down three weeks before, but never sought medical care for her.

She also said he took her medication and threatened to kill her if she told anyone what was happening.
