1 dies, 2 injured in single-vehicle wreck on Ecton Road
A Clark County teenager died in a single-vehicle accident that occurred around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on Ecton Road, according to Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue.
Perdue said the accident happened about a quarter-mile from Save-A-Lot on Ecton Road when the vehicle traveling toward Winchester went off the shoulder of the road and into an approximately 10-foot embankment.
“There’s very little shoulder to the road there,” Perdue said. “The car traveled a short distance after falling into the embankment and hit a concrete bridge abutment. The car then flipped and landed in a creek.”
Perdue said the vehicle caught fire in the course of the accident.
Preliminarily, Perdue said he believes the driver lost control of the vehicle and there was no indication at the scene that drugs or alcohol were involved.
Perdue said one passenger, a 16-year-old male from Clark County died on the scene. He was later identified as Dylan Fields of 348 Hill St.
The driver and another passenger, Johnathan Thurber and Christy D. Richardson, both of Winchester, were transported by ambulance to Clark Regional Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Richardson was later transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with a possible broken leg, according to the accident report.
“We don’t know if the victim died as a result of injuries from the wreck or the fire in the vehicle,” Perdue said. “He will be sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.”
He said Clark County Coroner Robert Gayheart was meeting with the victim’s family tonight.
