A judge found there was enough evidence to send assault and wanton endangerment charges from a downtown Winchester shooting to send it to the grand jury.

Grmyko Chenault, 25, is charged with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and one count of first-degree assault for the Jan. 31 incident. A co-defendant, 26-year-old Alexssandra Chenault of Winchester, was also charged with complicity to first-degree assault.

Police said Grmyko Chenault opened fire on another vehicle, following an argument near the Tyler Banks apartment complex. Police said a total of 26 shots were fired, one of which struck Temetrius Stewart in the head. The injury, though, was not considered life-threatening.

Police said the Chenaults, with Alexssandra driving, were in one vehicle. Stewart was one of several people in a second car. After the shots were fired, Stewart’s vehicle left the scene and was involved in an accident on West Lexington Avenue.

Witnesses said they saw a passenger in the vehicle, ARmonty English, remove a firearm from the vehicle and hide it. English was arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence. He is scheduled to be arraigned in March.

Following a preliminary hearing for Grmyko Chenault Wednesday in Clark District Court, Clark District Judge Earl-Ray Neal found there was enough probable cause to support the charges and forwarded the case to the grand jury. Alexssandra Chenault waived her preliminary hearing and sent the case to the grand jury.
