Winchester church sending truck of donations to hurricane victims

Lighthouse World Outreach Center is filling a U-Haul truck parked in the Peebles lot in Winchester Plaza with donations for hurricane victims in the southern U.S.
Pastor Ryan Dotson said the church began collecting items Monday morning and will continue accepting donations until 8 p.m. today.
“We started planning for this as soon as the storm hit,” Dotson said. “I have some contacts in the area at other churches and they’re going to be using their churches as distribution centers for supplies. There are a lot of areas the federal government hasn’t been able to get to yet.”
The church is looking for donations of water, bleach, cleaning supplies, bedding, phone chargers and other items necessary to aid recovery efforts.
Church member Sam Fields said he will be leaving Wednesday morning with the truck to deliver the supplies.
The truck is currently about half full, and Dotson said he is expecting a water donation from Save-A-Lot Tuesday afternoon. However, there is still room for donations from private Winchester residents and other businesses as well.
Dotson said the church has assisted in storm relief in the past, sending a truck similarly packed with supplies to help people after Hurricaine Katrina in 2005.
