There are still a few days remaining for businesses wanting to take part in a college and career fair at George Rogers Clark High School Sept. 29.

According to Clark County Community Education Director Cora Heffner, 26 colleges and 26 businesses have registered for the event, which will be from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“I would be happy to take more businesses but they need to be registered by Friday,” Heffner said.

The businesses will have tables set up in GRC’s auxiliary gym where students of grades eight through 12 will be able to meet with representatives, learn about the possible career paths they could take and network with potential employers.

Juniors and seniors will also be able to meet with representatives from several colleges and universities in the library, where they can learn about programs, scholarships and requirements for higher education.

Eighth-grade students, freshmen and sophomores will see a presentation from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) in the school’s auditorium to learn about how to begin planning for higher education and how to pay for it.

Heffner said some businesses which will have representatives present for the fair include Clark Regional Medical Center, Leggett and Platt, Rainmaker Hospitality, Winchester Fire-EMS and several staffing agencies.

GRC Youth Services Center Director John Lennon said the fair will feature several state universities, such as University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University and Bluegrass Community and Technical College in addition to some out-of-state universities including the University of Alabama.

The career fair is sponsored by Community Education, the GRC YSC and the Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce. Businesses and schools registered and in attendance at the fair will receive a free lunch.
