Heffner wins GEAR UP award

Clark County Community Education director Cora Heffner has been named the 2017 GEAR UP Kentucky Family Leader of the Year.
The award is given to a parent, mentor or volunteer in the school community who has demonstrated leadership and commitment to increasing aspirations, expectations and mobility for all students.
According to the award letter, Heffner was chosen for the award based on her support of GEAR UP staff and the many roles she has played in the Clark County Public Schools district.
“She has served as a Migrant Student Advocate, a Homeless Student Advocate, is the founder o Partners in Education, is a current member of the Chamber of Commerce board of directors and chair of the Community Alternatives Ky. Human Rights Committee,” the letter states.
