The Winchester Kiwanis Club is still looking for volunteers to take children shopping for school clothes during its Walk With a Child event Sept. 23.
During the event, Kiwanians purchase school clothes, shoes and coats for Clark County students. Club member Bob Jackson said 180 children have been signed up for Walk With a Child this year, and the club can spend $80 on each child. The event takes place at the Winchester Walmart starting at 8:30 a.m. and continuing on until noon.
Jackson said the club will have about 20 members there to take each of the families through the store one at a time.
“We’re a tax-deductible charity organization, so we don’t have to pay taxes and all the money can go toward getting things for the kids,” Jackson said.
Last year, the club was able to purchase clothes for more than 135 students ranging in age from preschool to fourth grade, club member Russ Morrison said.
Jackson said anyone wanting to volunteer for the event can sign up that morning with Kiwanis members.
