A Winchester father was arrested Thursday after his 6-month-old son was found with a broken foot and previously broken ribs.

Christopher D. Poole, 23, of 5 Wilson Lane, was arrested Thursday afternoon for first-degree criminal abuse, according to court documents.

Winchester Police officers were called to Clark Regional Medical Center Thursday at the request of social services workers. The child was determined to have the foot injury as well as a broken rib and clavicle, which had already healed but were not see in previous X-rays.

Poole was at the hospital when officers arrived and agreed to be interviewed at the police station, according to the citation.

Initially, Poole denied knowing how the foot and ankle injury occurred. Later, Poole said he grabbed the child by the ankle “in a moment of anger due to him pulling up the sheets,” the citation states. Poole reportedly told detectives he had picked the child up quickly in the past, and there were times he and his girlfriend sought medical attention for the child.

During the interview, the child was transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for further treatment.

Poole is being held in the Clark County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond, according to the jail website.
