eorge Rogers Clark High School students were among those recognized by the annual Central Kentucky Youth Leadership Counci’s “Youth Salute.” There were 46 students recognized from GRC among the 843 high school juniors from 543 high schools in Central Kentucky.

The Central Kentucky Council on Youth Leadership was formed in 1980 to conduct the “Youth Salute” in nearby counties in cooperation with the National Council on Youth Leadership, a non-profit organization. Students were nominated by teachers, guidance counsellors and principal’s for this year’s “Youth Salute.” In order to qualify, the student must be a junior (senior class of 2018), have a 3.0 GPA or better and have held at least two leadership roles for which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious or community-sponsored organizations.

Several students from GRC will be featured weekly in The Sun.

Alexa Dawn Sturgill

Alexa’s accomplishments includes leadership team for the George Rogers Clark High School marching band, piccolo leader, first chair piccolo player, marching band member from 2014 to 2017, Health Occupations Students of America member, Spanish Club member, dance team from 2014-2015, volunteer at Central Baptist Hospital, volunteer at Rainbow Bingo Hall, semi-finalist in 2-14 marching band.

Alexa plans to major in nursing at Eastern Kentucky University and pursue a career in pediatric nursing. She wants to minor in music performance.

Amy Renee Ginter

Amy’s accomplishments include captain of the track team, leader of Youth United youth group, Beta Club member, Spanish Club member, Young Democrats member, FCCLA member, Y Club member, cross country track team member and swim team member.

Amy plans to attend the University of Chicago and major in criminology.

Austin Taylor Clark

Austin’s accomplishments include FFA Recreation Committee chairman, 4-H Livestock Club vice president, FFA Career Success Committee chairman, Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra, National Honor Society, GRC marching band, GRC symphonic band, Clark County Junior Cattleman’s Association and Mt. Zion Christian Church youth group and praise team.

Austin would like to attend the University of Kentucky or Morehead State University and major in agriculture and music performance.

Brittany Paige Gibson

Brittany’s accomplishments include Superior Cadet award, Sons of Confederate Veterans award, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War award, Leadership Development award, Cadet of the Month award, Expert Marksman medal, Honor Guard team, drill team, color guard team and rifle team.

Brittany is interested in majoring in education at Eastern Kentucky University and pursuing a career as an elementary school teacher.

Caleb Cole

Caleb’s accomplishments include GRC marching band leadership team, first chair trombonist in symphonic band, Central Kentucky Youth orchestra nominee, Most Outstanding Freshman award for marching band in 2014, bass trombonist and upright bass player in jazz band, improv soloist, Eastern Kentucky University Marching Colonel for a day, Fine Arts Cohort and Calvary Christian Church children’s ministry tech team.

Caleb would like to major in music education and pursue a career as a band director.

Chevi Jean Price

Chevi’s accomplishments include GRC volleyball manager, GRC choir, National Honor Society, Homecoming court representative for 10th grade, election campaign volunteer, DanceBlue volunteer and member of Calvary Christian Church.

Chevi is undecided on her college choice, but plans to pursue a career in elementary or middle school education.

Courtney Elizabeth McKenzie-Francis

Courtney’s accomplishments include Clark County Future Farmers of America executive leadership team — leadership committee chair 2016-17 and cooperation committee chair 2015-16, Clark County 4-H Leadership Club treasurer 2016-17, Kentucky Natural Gaited Horse Association Board of Directors Jr. president, National Honor Society, Beta Club member, International Order of Rainbow for Girls member — Magoffin Assembly No. 47, 4-H district 4 Teen Council Clark County delegate, GRC track and field/cross country teams and member and volunteer at Central Baptist Church.

Courtney plans to pursue a degree of doctor of veterinary medicine and return to Clark County to open her own practice.

Dalton Penticuff

Dalton’s accomplishments include Beta Club, Y Club, Salvation Army volunteer, head lifeguard at YMCA, summer camp helper at YMCA, Grace Baptist Church youth group member and member at Grace Baptist Church.

Dalton plans to attend Western Kentucky University or the University of Kentucky and major in business.
