The Winchester-Clark County Farmers Market will host two veteran barbecuers Saturday, but they will not be competing.
According to Market Manager Leah Guggenmos, plans to host the fourth-annual Holy Smokes Barbecue contest were adjusted when only two contestants signed up.
“We were going to do a competition, but had trouble finding people to compete,” Guggenmos said. “Now it’s just a fundraiser.”
The market will open for its normal hours Saturday at 8 a.m., she said. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. tickets will be sold for a barbecue plate, which includes a sandwich, cookies made by the farmers of the market, a drink and chips. Each plate will cost $7, she said.
The meat will be smoked by Flak Brothers BBQ and the Elk Hawg Smokers, Guggenmos said. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.
Guggenmos said the money raised will be used to reimburse the cost of the meat, and any remaining proceeds will go to the farmers market.
The market is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon and Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m.
