The College of Technical Education’s cosmetology school has been operating in Winchester for 5 years, and to celebrate the school is hosting a celebration Friday.
Lead instructor Shawnda Miller said the celebration, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 2135 Bypass Road, will include free food, games, face painting, hair extensions and balloon animals.
“You know, the community has been a huge supporter for us,” Miller said. “This is our way of giving back to the community.”
Since it opening in 2012, the school has become a hub for students to come to and learn how to cut, style and color hair in addition to learning manicure, pedicure and other cosmetology skills.
The school currently has 38 students enrolled in classes, and more are expected to begin learning there soon, Miller said.
In addition to the games and food, radio station WKYN will be broadcasting at the school.
Miller said she is grateful to the sponsors of the event for their support, including Kroger, Walmart, Ale-8-One, Sonic, JC Penny Salon, Meijer, Smart Styles and The Winchester Sun.
