Evan Bennett took advantage of a course he knows well during the Bluegrass State Games disc golf tournament Saturday at Ironworks Hills.
Bennett shot a 19-under for the two-round event, just one shot off the tournament record — a mark he set in 2016. He topped the field to win the Open Pro division and bring home gold.
Bennett, who makes his home in Lexington but grew up in Clark County, wasn’t the only local to have success at Ironworks Hills.
Mark Baumgardner, of Winchester, won the Advanced Grandmaster (50-year-olds) division. Thom Brown, of Winchester, took first in the Novice Master Men division.
Other winners included Joel Bibble (Advanced), Erick Kopser (Advanced Master – 40-year-olds), Rick Thornsberry (Advanced Senior Grandmaster – 60-year-olds), Jacob Varner (Intermediate), Jarrett Spriggs (Intermediate Master), Chris Mooney (Recreational Men), Phil Harmon (Recreational Master Men), Steven Leffler (Novice Men), Angela Lair (Women).
The event saw 63 disc golfers, the largest field in 10 years, organizer Lewis Willian said.
