Dr. James R. Smith, aged 87, died of natural causes on November 17, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife Elaine Schmitt Smith; his three children Jimmy R. Smith (Ellen), Christie Burger (Eric), and David Smith (Erin); and his grandchildren Bradley, Garrett, Owen, and Izzie. Smith was born in Celina, Tennessee on June 28, 1937, the only child of Baby Reneau and Roy B. Smith. After attending Vanderbilt and U.T. Medical School, he began private medical practice in Clarksville, Tennessee. After retirement, Dr. Smith continued his intellectual curiosity on matters of philosophy, religion, and humanity.
