An early Monday fire caused heavy damage to a home on Cook Avenue.

Clark County Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Ben Wright said the fire was reported at 12:25 a.m. Monday after one of the residents returned home.

“(She) had gotten home, put her stuff down, smelled smoke and saw fire and got out,” Wright said.

When firefighters arrived to 217 Cook Ave., an addition to the rear of the wood-frame house was already fully engulfed, he said. The fire spread into the attic and a couple rooms in the original house, he said.

Though the fire was extinguished quickly, Wright said the entire house suffered significant damage between the fire, smoke and water.

The exact point of origin for the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation, he said.

No one else was in the house, which is owned by Wayne Harrison, at the time of the fire, he said. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on the scene for about three and a half hours, most of which was spent overhauling the scene, Wright said.
