Jerry Ray Hopper, 72, husband of Carolyn Stewart Hopper, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017 at his residence. A native of Powell County, Jerry was born on March 22, 1945 to the late Walker Webb Hopper and Ethel Irene Townsend Hopper. He was a longtime employee of the University of Kentucky and of the Baptist Faith. Above all else he was a loving husband to Carolyn for 52 years and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, survivors include one daughter, Lisa (Dave) Castle; two grandchildren, Melinda Carol Johnson ( Ryan Scott), William Tyler (Shayla) Castle; five great-grandchildren, Sophia Jewelette Raylee Castle, Nicholas Johnson, Conner Johnson, Shaeleigh Alexis Castle, Angalee Marice Castle; one brother, Rev. David Hopper; one sister, Faye (Albert) Slusher. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnny Hopper, Bobby Hopper, Henry Hopper.
Services to honor Jerry’s life will be conducted 11:00AM, Monday, July 3, 2017 at Scobee Funeral Home by Rev. David Hopper. Burial will follow in the Meadows Cemetery in Powell County. Pallbearers will be Dave Castle, William Tyler Castle, Ryan Scott Johnson, Larry Stewart, Calvin Becknell, and James Walker Ennis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sheila Kay Lawrence, Jessica Ann Liggett, Lanie Glen Proffitt as well as other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00PM-7:00PM on Sunday, July 2, 2017at Scobee Funeral Home.
