Major John D. Jenks, Jr., 90, widower of Lucille Jenks, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Thompson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky. Born on May 6, 1934, in Columbus, Georgia, he was the son of the late John D. Jenks, Sr. and Mary Catching Jenks. He was a member of Forest Grove Christian Church.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, John served with distinction during the Korean Conflict. His military career spanned numerous tours of duty in Austria, Germany, Korea, and three deployments in Vietnam, along with various classified assignments. He earned several commendations for his bravery, including three Silver Stars for valor, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, and three Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in action. After retiring from military service, he continued his dedication to aviation in the civil aviation support industry before joining Eastern Airlines.
Survivors include three children, Richard (Anne) Jenks, Kelly (Danny) Kimmel, and Jill Clark; stepsons, William Kevin (Marsha) Vaughn and James Craig (Leslie) Vaughn; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family members.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by siblings, Margaret Inez Ohs and David Barrow Jenks and a son, John Jenks III.
Family will receive friends from 10:00AM until time of memorial service at 11:00AM on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Leon Pace Memorial Chapel.
