Two years ago, track and field athlete Bailey Howard – daughter of current Clark County Public Schools Superintendent Dustin Howard – performed exceptionally well at the Adidas Middle School Outdoor Nationals competition in North Carolina.
Now a George Rogers Clark High School student, she has continued to perform at high levels.
Howard competed at the USA Track and Field (USATF) Regional meet in Charleston, West Virginia, to start July and the 2024 National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships.
Howard, who trains at Kaizen Pole Vault Club in Richmond, finished first among 15-16-year-olds in both the pole vault and triple jump at the Regional meet in Charleston.
Thus, she qualified for the latter, which took place at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
During such competition, Howard – entering her junior year this upcoming season – finished with a personal record of 11 ’11-¼ in the girls’ pole vault 15-16 competition.
These numbers were good enough to propel her to a fourth-place finish in a field of over 30 competitors from multiple states.
The two competitions from this summer follow a solid finish to her sophomore year.
At the 2024 KHSAA Class 3A Track and Field Championship in early June, Howard tied for fifth place in a field of nearly 20 competitors in girls’ pole vaulting with a mark of 10-06.00.
Howard has also previously competed in long jump, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, indoor 60-meter dash, and indoor pole vaulting.
