Former Winchester Mayor and long-time attorney and public servant Dodd Dixon has added a new role to his resume. 

According to a news release, Dixon was recently announced by Kentucky Christian University in Carter County as a new member of the school’s track coaching staff. 

As an assistant coach, he will be working with sprints mid-distance and long-distance athletes and relays. 

“I am excited to have this opportunity to assist Coach Todd Eastham and the University in reaching their goals for the season,” stated Dixon in the release. 

As someone with deep athletic roots, Dixon started his coaching career at Clark County Christian School in 2001, where he served as both a high school and middle school coach. 

In 2004, after being asked to do so, Dixon took on the task of rebuilding the track program at George Rogers Clark High School, which had been dormant for several years. 

At first, the school worked with little equipment and without a track. 

“The first several years were difficult,” said Dixon. 

Eventually, despite the limited faculty, the track and cross country program at George Rogers Clark High School began performing well, and Dixon helped oversee three regional runners up in cross country and a third-place state finish for GRC in indoor track. 

At the middle school level with sixth through eighth graders, Dixon has overseen two state cross country titles as well as a 3rd, 4th and 5th place finisher. 

For indoor track, Robert D. Campbell Junior High School in Winchester – where Dixon has coached – has had three consecutive state runners-up team titles. 

Most recently, the boys’ track team at George Rogers Clark High School finished as regional runners-up in the always competitive Lexington region. 

Dixon is a five-time KTCCCA, or Kentucky Track Cross Country Coaches Association, Area 6 Coach of the Year. 

“I think the future looks bright for Clark County running,” he said. “I expect the team to be a contender for Regionals year in and year out, as well as perform well at state…Last year we had 250 runners, kindergarten through 12th grade. The program is strong and I expect great accomplishments over the next several years.” 

Besides track, Dixon plans to continue being active at the high school level with activities and more. 

He currently coaches both speech and bowling at GRC. 

Presently, he has his sights on working at the collegiate level. 

“It is a different experience,” Dixon added. “We have a system that we developed over 23 years in Clark County. Now, I get the opportunity to participate in a new system at Kentucky [Christian University].”  

Kentucky Christian University head coach Todd Eastham expressed equal enthusiasm. 

“We are excited to have Coach Dixon join our staff. He is heaven sent.” Eastham said.
