The Clark County Coroner has identified the victim in a deadly ambulance crash that closed a stretch of the Mountain Parkway for several hours Sunday.
Deborah J. Akers, 66, of Elkhorn City in Pike County, was pronounced dead at the Clark Regional Medical Center.
Akers was a patient being transported from Pikeville to UK Medical Center.
Investigators believe that the ambulance hit a guardrail and flipped over. An EMT was ejected from the ambulance due to the force of the crash and was transported to UK Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
