Clarence L. “Bud” Walthour, Jr of Winchester, formerly of Flatwoods passed away February 11, 2024. He was born August 25, 1932 to the late Clarence Sr. and Cleona Springer Walthour. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Margaret “Peg” Walthour, two sisters, Shirley Lopes and Lois Wentzel, and one grandson Ben Potter. Bud was a long time employee of National Mine Service and after two unsuccessful attempts at retirement finally retired from AddCar Systems at the age of 82.

Bud was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Winchester, KY and was also a part of the families of Grassland Community Church in Catlettsburg and the Community Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte. He joyfully cut the grass of the latter two for many years. He was also a volunteer at Hillcrest-Bruce Mission in Ashland, and Clark County Community Services in Winchester. In addition to mowing grass, Bud loved model trains and watching his granddaughter and later great-granddaughter play volleyball. He was the “Team Pap” of the Boyd County volleyball team from 2000-2003.

Bud is survived by three children, Kathy (Harry) Simpson of Irmo, South Carolina, Rev. Dave Walthour of Lebanon, New Hampshire, and Cyndi (Mike) Downing of Winchester, with whom he resided, seven grandchildren, Matthew (Jenny) Potter of Irmo, SC, Alli Ford of Lexington, Grace (Andrew) Best of Totnes, England, John (Erin) Walthour of Lebanon, NH, Marli (Alex) Green of Lexington, Luke (Mira) Walthour of Preston, NJ, six great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, sister, Galia Tugholski of FL.

Services will be conducted on Friday, February 16th at 1:00 at Scobee Funeral Home by Rev. Wanda B. Olive. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon on Saturday, February 17 at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods, Kentucky by the Rev. Dave Walthour.

Bud was the kindest man. Therefore in lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, please perform an act of kindness in his memory.
